Drinks with: LPC Students

Yesterday after work we had what was our first reunion post – LPC. Most people have now returned from their summer of travelling to start training contracts or job hunting. The stats are as follows: 4x with Training Contracts, 3x non law jobs, 2x law jobs, 1x no job. Quite a variety.

There was a sort of familiarity about being back in our usual haunt surrounded by friendly faces, yet undoubtedly things have changed, there was a new sense of competitiveness and tension. Particularly when 2 friends were talking about the fantastic interview they had last week that they really thought they got – unfortunately it turned out to be the same place, for the one job. So they decided to analyse the differences between their interviews until they were blue in the face. It is clear as long as we are all searching for a training contract there will be a certain tension.

Graduation is in three months – lets hope there will be a lighter atmosphere then.

  1. My Dear TT,

That tension, unfortunately, between those who have (TC's/Pupillage) and those who have not will go on long beyond graduation, I fear; my lot have been called for a year, and it's not better - in fact, it seems to be getting worse , even though none of us have pupillage; then again, my group was catty and excessively competitive in its very nature almost from the get go, which is why I tried to stay away from it's politics when we were studying together; now that we are absolved from such a burden ,and only see one another a couple of ( hard pressed ) times a year, the points scoring analytical dingdong that characterises our get togethers is getting a bit tired; I'd like to think that this would have stopped by now, but not a bit of it. I do hope your own group sorts itself out, and does not go down the rather embittered path mine has chosen to travel upon.....

  2. Hey minxy.
I was in many ways lucky to have a nice LPC group. All of us that still keep in touch got on well and helped each other out unlike my LLB group. I was off sick several times during undergrad and only one guy (random guy from hong kong who knew little english) would consider lending me the material to catch up. LPC only had one day off sick, but everyone was very helpful.

Found out today both girls got a job at the firm they had interview at, although one got a job in an area of law she's terrible at rather than the one she wanted. but brightened up their spirits.
